We are deeply grateful to the individuals and groups who have been the heart and soul of IDRN since its founding in 2007. These dedicated leaders have tirelessly invested their time, resources, and networks to help others through IDRN.

IDRN the network itself does not claim credit for their amazing work. These individuals and groups are the true heroes who have selflessly served their communities, both locally and globally. As IDRN evolves, it’s important to recognize and celebrate their contributions, and learn from their experiences.

“I know, appreciate, and respect these individuals. They have made IDRN a respected name in their countries. I hope that newcomers to IDRN will connect with them and build lasting relationships.” – JMW, IDRN Global Executive Director

These legacy groups operate in diverse ways. Some are formal organizations, while others are informal networks. What unites them is their commitment to training and coordinating volunteers to respond effectively to various disasters. We encourage new IDRN groups to follow their example of dedication and service.

A Shifting Focus

It’s important to note that IDRN is transitioning. Our focus is moving away from directly coordinating response efforts. Instead, we are becoming a global grassroots registry that prioritizes:

  • Awareness: Educating communities about disaster risks and preparedness.
  • Best Practices: Sharing knowledge and expertise among disaster response groups.
  • Collaboration: Fostering connections and partnerships within the IDRN network.

In the past, IDRN mobilized resources. In the future, IDRN members will be empowered to mobilize themselves. In essence, the future of IDRN lies not in centralizing mobilization but in empowering individual members to take the initiative, building upon the strong foundation laid by the legacy groups.

Dedicated Pages: Celebrating Our Legacy

While IDRN’s focus may be shifting, the legacy groups will continue their vital work as they always have, responding to disasters with the same dedication and expertise. We are confident that they will continue to serve as shining examples for other groups within the IDRN network.

One of the ways new members can follow an example is how these groups have orchestrated bi-annual conferences they entitled Global Changing Challenges (GCC).

We invite you to explore the dedicated pages for each legacy group and their GCC conferences and discover their approaches to disaster response and how they can inspire and inform your own efforts. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient global network.

Don’t walk alone. These IDRN Legacy groups have walked together for many years. They are an excellent example for us all.
