The International Disaster Response Network (IDRN) is a collection of organizations and individuals who are committed to work together in preparation, training and response when significant international disaster events occur.
The IDRN.INFO website is to serve as a web-based portal or toolset to enable this network to better collaborate when responding to an event. It is primarily focused on facilitating IDR practitioners – those who are actively engaged in response and coordination of the response.
Via the IDRN.INFO website, the participants are provided general updates and reports that are generated as the IDRN engages. SPOT reports are often quick updates when something newsworthy to the network, like major breaking news that changes the Alert Level of the IDRN, has occurred. Situation Reports (SITREPs) are documentation that is intended to provide a snapshot of time and a Common Operational Picture (COP) which is intended to help all those involved or interested to have a better understanding of who is doing what and where, so that decisions can be better coordinated.
However, the primary purpose of this website is not just to provide breaking news to the general public, but to provide a functional, collaborative tool for disaster responders. IDRN members are able to login into the operational system of the IDRN.INFO site, known as the IDRN Virtual Emergency Coordination Center (VECC), where they can directly interact with the raw data being shared among those IDRN members engaged in a disaster event. The system has a “real-time” stream of data captured as members are actively work in an event. Status boards are created on-the-fly to provide simple and organized points for sharing information as it develops.
Currently, members of the Starfish Community (www.starfishcommunity.net) can used their Starfish member login information to access the IDRN.INFO VECC. If you have questions regarding the IDRN or the VECC, please email info@idrn.info and someone will help you.
